Two easy-to-miss "holidays" land next week: International Literacy Day on Tuesday, September 8, and National Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 13. Neither needs a lesson plan, just a little intention. 📚🧓

Here are 3 ways to make them count:

📚 1. Make a tiny book for International Literacy Day
UNESCO created this day in 1966 to highlight literacy as the foundation for everything else — this year's theme is "Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity." Have your kids fold a few sheets of paper into a mini book and write (or dictate) their own three-page story. A simple way to connect reading, writing, and pride of ownership.

🧓 2. Interview a grandparent for National Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day lands September 13 — a great excuse for an "oral history" project. Have your kids write down 5 questions ("What was school like for you?" "What's your favorite memory from when you were my age?") and call or video-chat a grandparent to record the answers. Real history, straight from the source.
