An online learning platform that reduces screen time? How does that work?!

Hi Reader!

For a minute, online video learning was all the rage. But, while it is still very popular, more and more people are raising concerns over the long-term effects of excessive screen time.

Beyond the short-term issues of headaches, eye strain, poor posture, and trouble focusing, studies now show that too much time on screens can result in poor cognitive function, reduced language development, and impaired social-emotional development. This means, that online learning, while helpful in some ways, can ultimately be a detriment in key areas of communication and social awareness.

This is why, at Homeschool Safari, we have intentionally designed our program to offer the best of everything. Our online resources are available for parents at their fingertips, but kids will not spend all of their time watching videos online using our program; so parents can be in charge, but have everything they need to be successful. It's the difference between putting your kids on the school bus, and getting into the car with the GPS and mirrors already set so you're sure to get them there safely.

Here's a breakdown of what that looks like:

  • When you subscribe to Homeschool Safari you enroll your children in the classes and clubs you want them to take. There are several to choose from, but all of them are 25-minute group classes with a live teacher. This gives students the opportunity for focused learning and social interaction from the comfort and safety of home.
  • As the parent, you can participate in mentorship calls, the parent forum, or watch our parent class series (in progress) to help gain a better understanding of what homeschooling is, how it works, how your children learn, and other useful information to help empower you as the parent to be a better teacher.
  • As a member of The Homeschool Safari, you also have access to our math and ELA curriculum. This includes notes for teaching instruction for parents and downloadable/printable materials for each day.

Additional activities and resources can be found on the website, or if you're still stuck, our team can recommend youtube videos and other resources to help make teaching easier. Here are some examples: Count to 11 Activity, Tell a Math Story Printable

There are so many fun things for students to do, but you get to choose which ones they participate in. It's all a part of our mission to put parents in the drivers' seat, and bring together the best parts of online and in person learning.

We are excited about the program we have to offer homeschool families, and we hope you'll join us on our homeschool safari!

Hi Reader! Once someone has decided to give homeschooling a try, it's very common to experience a moment of panic. A "now, what?" moment, where one has to figure out what the next step is. Most often, that includes deciding on a curriculum. How do you even begin to choose? It's helpful to do a little bit of research before committing to one specific curriculum option. This can take some time, but we've tried to cut down on some of the leg work for you by outlining the 7 Primary Homeschooling...
